Towards functional metabolomics

Whilst our abilities at metabolic engineering have advanced rapidly in the last 20 years our understanding of metabolite function have not kept pace. This somewhat limits our capabilities in the generation of a climate-resistant sustainable agriculture. In my talk I will highlight the difficulties in improving this issue as well as suggesting a possible route at utilizing natural variation as one route to address it.
