CPSC proteomics platform seminar:

The diversity of proteomics

Mass spectrometry based proteomics has changed our understanding of biological processes in the recent years.  The characterization of whole proteomes are now publically available, light is shed on extensive signaling networks and their posttranslational modifications and the number of known protein interaction partners and their subcellular localization is increasing.

The ongoing fast development of new technologies in mass spectrometry and its combination with different separation techniques supports the possibility to address nearly all questions regarding protein function and structure by at least one proteomics approach.  The diversity of approaches and their usage of different mass spectrometers, separation techniques and further tools used in proteomics research is therefore quite high.

One year ago we started to establish a proteomics platform at CPSC to make this technology available to the different research groups at PLEN. During this seminar we would like to give you an overview of the field of mass spectrometry based proteomics and show you its possibilities and bottlenecks in plant research.

We would also like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the organization of the evolving proteomics platform. The seminar will be divided in two parts: A) The introduction to mass spectrometry based proteomics and its applications and B) The applications of proteomics and the research in proteomics done at CPSC. Refreshments will be offered in between.

The lecturer will be Annemarie Matthes.
