Seminar with Karin Schumacher

Prof. Dr. Karin Schumacher from Centre for Organismal Studies, University of Heidelberg will give a seminar on 18 March at 10.30-11.30. She will talk about "Vacuoles – Pumping up the plant volume".

The presence of a large central vacuole that fulfills multiple functions in storage, detoxification and cell growth is one of the hallmarks of a prototypical plant cell.

Vacuolar transport is channeled by a battery of transport proteins that are all assumed to be energized by the combined activity of two proton-pumps, the vacuolar H+-pyrophosphatase (V-PPase) and the vacuolar H+-adenosinetriphosphatase (V-ATPase).

In her presentation, Karin Schumacher will discuss the physiological roles of the two proton-pumps, their trafficking routes to the tonoplast as well as the process of vacuole biogenesis.

Time: 18 March, 10.30-11.30

Place: Thorvaldsensvej 40, 1871 Frederiksberg C. Room H117, K117 and M117.

Organizer: Anja Thoe Fuglsang & Copenhagen Plant Science Centre.
