Workshop on Big Data - Food and Agriculture

World population is still growing and people are living longer. World demand for food rises sharply and current growth rates in agriculture are clearly insufficient. At the same time extreme climatic events, caused by climate change, give rise to severe damage on traditional agriculture.

An urgent and deep redesign of agriculture is thus crucial to increase output and reduce environmental impacts.

The purpose of this workshop is to show that, thanks to data science and ICT, a new generation of predictive and decision support tools should help improving farm production, while getting properly adapted to soils, climatic and agronomic constraints, and by considering the genetic specificities of plants and animals.

  • Thomas Roitsch (PLEN, UCPH, Copenhagen): “The challenges of integration of multi-omics techniques and physiological phenotyping within a holistic phenomics approach to study model and crop plants”
  • Åsmund Rinnan (Food Science, UCPH, Copenhagen): “Making a sensible choice – Linear vs. non-linear mathematics”
