Mathias Pribil14.00-15.00 Mathias Pribil: How is thylakoid plasticity affected by reversible protein-phosphorylation?

Mathias Pribil comes to CPSC from a position as associated group leader at the chair of molecular plant sciences at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. He started at CPSC as Associate Professor on 1 October 2014.

His research focuses on dissecting the regulatory mechanisms of thylakoid phosphorylation and its impact on the acclimation of photosynthesis to light changes. The ultimate aim is to unravel how thylakoid phosphorylation regulates photosynthetic electron flow and thylakoid ultrastructure and how thylakoid phosphorylation is embedded in the intercompartmental networks that regulate and coordinate gene expression. Especially, with climate changes in mind, this might be the key to modify the photosynthetic electron flow in a controlled and predictable manner with the long term potential to improve photosynthesis and biomass accumulation under specific conditions.

Stephan Wenkel 15:00-16:00 Stephan Wenkel: MicroProteins and plant development

Stephan Wenkel started at CPSC on 1 September 2014 and previously held a position as Independent Research Group Leader in plant genetics at the University of Tübingen, Center for Plant Molecular Biology.

With his research group he has been is studying the role of environmental signals on plant development especially on two developmental processes: leaf development and flowering time control. He was recently awarded an ERC-Starting Grant to study microProteins in plants. The long term goal is to understand how environmental signals modulate plant morphology, focusing on microProteins and their interference on gene regulation by establishing signaling relays.
